Economists: Tinubu’s reforms may take 20 years to benefit Nigerians
Economists say Nigerians may have to wait between 12 and 20 years to fully feel the benefits of President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, Nairametrics reports. Chief Economist at SPM Professionals, Dr. Paul Alaje, said structural reforms typically take that long before impact becomes visible, though some countries see results in six to 10 years.
Financial economist Dr. Felix Echekoba said restructuring usually imposes short-term sacrifices before long-term gains, while development economist Professor Tayo Bello compared Nigeria’s experience to India, Ghana and Egypt. The reforms, including subsidy removal and forex liberalisation, have driven high prices despite fiscal gains.
