Eddie Howe linked with Old Trafford job as pressure mounts on Michael Carrick
Former Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe has emerged as a leading candidate to take over at Manchester United as Michael Carrick’s tenure nears an end, according to Shields Gazette.
Carrick is widely expected to be relieved of his duties following a poor start to the season, leaving the Red Devils 16th in the Premier League.
Howe, who stepped down from Newcastle three months ago after winning the Carabao Cup and securing two Champions League qualifications during his four-and-a-half years at St James’ Park, is reportedly open to the move.
Howe previously addressed links to Old Trafford in October 2024, stating: “I’m all in [at Newcastle]. My commitment is 100 per cent here and always has been.”
Addressing later rumors in January, he added: “The most important thing for me is happiness in the role, happiness in the job, the relationships that I have with the people around me now.”
