Edo govt: Road repairs not feasible during rainy season

The Edo State Government has appealed to residents to exercise patience over the deplorable condition of roads across the state, saying massive rehabilitation and reconstruction will begin during the dry season, Tribune reported.

Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, made the appeal in Benin City during the ministry’s monthly media briefing. He said attempting major repairs amid heavy rains would waste construction materials, adding: “No construction engineer will attempt to fix potholes and bad roads during the rainy season.”

Afegbua attributed the state’s road deterioration partly to poor-quality projects inherited from the previous administration of Godwin Obaseki, citing potholes on roads in the GRAs, Iyekogba Estate, Irihih and Okoroma. He said the Monday Okpebholo administration was keeping records of road conditions and would carry out comprehensive repairs when the weather permits.
