EFCC investigates passenger after Customs intercepts over ₦1bn in undeclared foreign currencies
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is investigating a passenger, Haruna Yusuf, after the Nigeria Customs Service intercepted undeclared foreign currencies worth over ₦1 billion at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, according to THEWILL.
Officials seized $73,000, £15,957 and 827,800 Saudi Riyals concealed in footwear and sports shoes during operations between August 8 and 12. Acting Customs Comptroller U.U. Adamu handed the suspect and exhibits to EFCC’s Kano Directorate.
EFCC’s Friday Ebelo warned travellers against violating currency declaration laws, noting that proper declaration protects legitimately acquired funds from seizure under anti-money laundering regulations.
