Enugu Air Runway Overrun in Benin Triggers Fresh NSIB Safety Concerns
The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau has raised fresh safety concerns over runway-end conditions, control tower visibility, and weather information availability following a July 23 runway overrun involving an Enugu Air aircraft in Benin, according to Punch.
The Embraer ERJ 170 aircraft, carrying 68 people, overran Runway 05 after landing in moderate rain and struck approach-lighting installations. All occupants evacuated safely via emergency slides. NSIB issued four immediate safety recommendations to aviation regulatory bodies, though it clarified the preliminary report does not assign blame. The final report, expected later, will present conclusions and any further safety recommendations from the investigation.
