Europe’s anger at US grows as Canada tariffs threaten global economy
German Vice Chancellor Lars Klingbeil has warned that President Donald Trump’s economic policies, particularly his tariffs on Canada, would “ultimately harm everyone involved,” as European allies voice growing frustration with Washington.
As reported by The Mirror US, speaking at the G20 Summit in Asheville, Klingbeil cited America’s handling of the Iran war and unilateral tariffs as evidence of a deepening rift, declaring the US “untrustworthy” following its trade dispute with Canada.
According to the Tax Foundation, tariffs have already raised retail prices on imported goods by about 7%.
Meanwhile, global debt has hit a record $353 trillion, with US debt alone reaching $40 trillion, though Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent dismissed fears of a bond market crisis as unwarranted.
