Everton beat Newcastle again as Barry seals Premier League victory
Everton secured their second victory over Newcastle United in four days with a narrow 1-0 Premier League win at St James’ Park on Monday.
According to the Everton’s official website, Thierno Barry scored the decisive goal to earn David Moyes’ side all three points and move them up to seventh in the Premier League table. After beating Newcastle 3-1 in the Carabao Cup last Thursday, Everton carried their impressive form into the league encounter, dominating much of the first half but failing to find the breakthrough.
The visitors eventually took the lead three minutes after the restart when Tyrique George’s effort slipped through goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek’s hands, allowing Barry to score from close range. Everton continued to threaten, with Hornicek producing several saves to keep Newcastle in contention.
The hosts pushed for an equaliser, but Jordan Pickford denied Yoane Wissa late on, while James Tarkowski cleared an effort off the line. Newcastle’s Jacob Ramsey was sent off in stoppage time after receiving two quick yellow cards.
