Everton face financial cost of terminating Jack Grealish’s loan deal
Everton could face a significant financial cost if they decide to terminate Jack Grealish’s loan agreement with Manchester City ahead of the January transfer window.
Former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, believes the agreement is unlikely to contain a clause allowing Everton to send the England international back without paying a fee.
Grealish has been absent from David Moyes’ squad following a reported disciplinary breach, although the Everton manager has indicated that the winger could return. Borson said: “I’d be amazed if Man City had given Everton a release, effectively, even in this situation, or almost especially in this situation.”
He added: “So I very much doubt there’s a clause where Everton can say, well, if this happens, they can return him effectively for free.” Everton could either pay City to terminate the arrangement or continue covering his wages.
An early departure would potentially free up room for Moyes to strengthen his attacking options in January, with Kelvin Yeboah and Giorgi Kvernadze among the players linked with the club.
