Ex-Lagos teacher gets life sentence for defiling eight-year-old

A Lagos State High Court in Ikeja has sentenced former teacher Nwatu Isaac to life imprisonment for defiling an eight-year-old pupil at El-Bossaa Nursery and Primary School, Epe.

According to Channels Television, Justice Rahman Oshodi also ordered Isaac’s name entered in the Sex Offenders Register under Lagos State law.

The court found that Isaac sexually assaulted the child inside the school’s male toilet on March 10, 2022, after asking her to retrieve a piece of paper.

The girl later reported the incident to her father, while her mother testified that she observed blood on the child’s clothing and body. Medical evidence presented during trial was found to corroborate the child’s account.

Isaac denied entering the school, claiming he remained at the gate, but the court rejected his defence.

Justice Oshodi ruled that the prosecution proved the offence beyond reasonable doubt, saying Isaac betrayed the trust placed in him as the victim’s former teacher.
