FG begins ₦50,000 monthly cash relief for vulnerable households
The Federal Government has begun a monthly cash relief programme offering ₦50,000 to vulnerable households to cushion the effect of rising living costs, Channels TV reported Friday.
Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction Bernard Doro announced this in a statement in Abuja. He said the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI) was a presidential initiative introduced in response to global food inflation.
“Eligible beneficiaries will receive ₦50,000 monthly,” Doro said.
He said the programme would be reviewed regularly as the cost of living changes, and beneficiaries would be notified directly before any adjustment.
Payments will go straight to bank accounts or mobile wallets after beneficiaries consent by text message from licensed digital financial service providers. Doro said beneficiaries do not need to apply, pay any fee or register through agents.
He warned Nigerians against fraudsters and urged beneficiaries not to disclose their PINs or Bank Verification Numbers to anyone. He gave a helpline, 0700-022-2222, for those unsure about any message.
