FG declares Tuesday public holiday for Eid ul Mawlid celebration
The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate Eid ul Mawlid, marking the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo made the announcement on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement issued by Ministry Permanent Secretary Dr Magdalene Ajani, as reported by The Punch.
Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and the diaspora while urging all Nigerians — not just Muslims — to reflect on the values of compassion, humility and service associated with the Prophet’s life.
“These are qualities our nation needs now more than ever,” he said, calling on citizens to use the occasion to pray for peace, national unity and cohesion while celebrating with restraint and mutual respect.
