FG set to introduce rules on underage internet access
The Federal Government says security agencies will soon announce guidelines regulating internet access for children under 16 to protect minors from cyber threats, according to The Nation.
Education Minister Tunji Alausa disclosed this in Abuja during the launch of the Zero-Rated Access to Education Platforms initiative, organised with the Nigerian Communications Commission. He said digital inclusion must be paired with strict content regulation to prevent indiscriminate exposure to unverified material.
NCC Commissioner Ikechukwu Ugwuegede described the zero-rated access scheme as comparable to the e-book revolution, ensuring equal learning opportunities for rural and urban students. Senate and House committee members commended telecom operators for supporting the initiative.
