Former Ref Boss brands Harry Maguire a ‘serial offender’ after controversial penalty omission
Former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett has labeled Manchester United defender Harry Maguire a “serial offender” after he avoided conceding a penalty during United’s 1-1 draw against Leeds United, according to GiveMeSport.
Hackett argued that Maguire should have been penalized in the 63rd minute for dragging Leeds player Ethan Ampadu to the ground at a corner kick. Referee Darren England allowed play to continue, and VAR elected not to intervene—a decision Hackett sharply criticized, claiming the VAR team should have advised England to review the incident on the pitchside monitor.
Furthermore, Hackett attributed the referee’s missed calls, including a harsh challenge from Ampadu on Bryan Mbeumo, to “mental exhaustion,” citing England’s VAR duties during Liverpool’s match the previous day.
The draw leaves Michael Carrick’s Manchester United team with just seven points from seven Premier League matches as pressure continues to mount ahead of their upcoming midweek UEFA Champions League clash against Como.
