Convicted Fort Hood gunman Nidal Hasan will be executed by firing squad on December 3 at 1 p.m. at the same Texas military base where he carried out his 2009 massacre, officials announced Tuesday.

Army Secretary Adam Telle disclosed the date in a post on X Tuesday night, according to the New York Post, which first reported the story.

Hasan killed 12 US service members and one civilian, and wounded 32 others, in the November 2009 shooting.

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth recommended the firing squad, and President Donald Trump approved it on Monday, Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said.

“Judgement day for Hasan has finally come,” Parnell wrote in a separate X post, noting Hasan was “shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’ during the [2009] attack.”

Hasan, a former Army major and psychiatrist, attacked troops lining up for immunisations. A responding police officer shot him in the back, leaving him paralysed.

At trial, he told a military judge he was defending “the leadership of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, the Taliban.”

A military court sentenced him to death in 2013. He will be the first service member executed by the armed forces since 1961.
