Four months, no govt response: Borno kidnap families sell homes for ransom
Relatives of 52 kidnapped Borno State residents have resorted to selling their homes in anticipation of ransom demands, while some have already been defrauded by imposters posing as abductors, families’ spokesperson Hassan Yati told Saturday PUNCH.
The victims were kidnapped from different parts of Borno State on April 15. Yati revealed that one family paid N1.5 million of a N3 million demand to fraudsters before discovering the actual kidnappers had made no such request.
“One parent with only daughter kidnapped told me she sold her family house in Biu in anticipation,” Yati said, adding that government efforts to secure the victims’ release had yielded no results, leaving families in prolonged anguish.
