Ghana rejects MTN’s GHS20m offer for South Africa xenophobic attack victims

Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it declined a GHS20 million donation MTN Ghana planned for victims of xenophobic attacks in South Africa, though it commended the telecom giant for the gesture.

According to a Peoples Gazette report, the ministry said the Mahama administration has already made adequate provision for evacuations and reintegration, a position earlier conveyed directly to MTN’s board chair and CEO on August 14.

The ministry pledged full transparency, promising to publish the total evacuation cost once the exercise concludes.
