FIFA president Gianni Infantino has been asked to stay away from a youth tournament in the Dominican Republic amid growing opposition to his leadership. According to Reuters, Concacaf president Victor Montagliani wrote to Infantino requesting that he reconsider attending the Caribbean Football Union’s Under-14 Series, warning that his presence could overshadow the competition because of the ongoing FIFA governance crisis.

Infantino is facing calls to resign from several confederations following his abandoned proposal to sell a stake in the World Cup. Despite the controversy, the FIFA chief was welcomed by Dominican officials during his visit to Punta Cana. He is seeking a fourth term until 2031.
