Gianni Infantino to seek fourth FIFA presidential term despite growing pressure

Gianni Infantino will seek re-election as FIFA president in 2027 despite growing criticism over the governing body’s abandoned World Cup commercialisation plan. According to Daily Star, FIFA confirmed on Sunday that Infantino intends to contest what would be his fourth and final term, extending his leadership until 2031.

The announcement comes amid opposition from UEFA and several national associations, including the English FA, with some calling for a change at the top. FIFA previously apologised for mistakes surrounding the proposed commercial subsidiary. Infantino had already announced his intention to run at the FIFA Congress in April. The next presidential election is scheduled for March 18, 2027.
