Gordon nets first Champions League goal as Barcelona down Galatasaray
Anthony Gordon scored his first Champions League goal for Barcelona as the Spanish side came from behind to beat Galatasaray 4-1 in Istanbul, BBC Sport reports.
Galatasaray took the lead through Aleksey Batrakov in the 28th minute, with a deflected finish off Joao Cancelo after a swift counter led by Rafael Leao. The hosts thought they had doubled their advantage six minutes later, but Baris Alper Yilmaz’s header was disallowed for offside following a VAR check.
Barcelona equalised two minutes before half-time through Joao Cancelo, who curled home after a deflected pass from Dani Olmo. Hansi Flick’s side then pulled away in the second half, with Fermin Lopez heading in a Lamine Yamal cross in the 50th minute before Gordon fired home from close range three minutes later, his first goal for the club in the competition. Substitute Karim Adeyemi added a fourth late on.
The win takes Barcelona to six points in the league phase, having also thrashed Feyenoord 5-1 in their opener. Barcelona’s attacking form under Flick now stands at 84 goals in 28 Champions League matches. They travel to face Paris Saint-Germain next, while Galatasaray host Lille in search of their first win of the campaign.
