Gov Otti: Fuel subsidy return won’t help, higher prices made Nigerians more reasonable

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has defended the removal of fuel subsidy, saying restoring the policy would not benefit Nigeria and higher petrol prices have made citizens more reasonable.

According to Peoples Gazette, Otti told Arise TV on Friday that removing the subsidy was the right decision, describing the previous arrangement as a scam.

He argued that subsidised fuel encouraged excessive consumption, while higher prices had forced people to become more conscious of their spending and lifestyle.

Otti’s comments come amid debate over former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s campaign pledge to restore subsidies on locally produced petrol.

Atiku, the African Democratic Congress presidential candidate for the 2027 election, says the proposal would help ease the economic burden facing Nigerians nationwide.
