Gowon says Igbo were compensated after civil war, clears Awolowo over £20 policy
Former Head of State Gen. Yakubu Gowon says Igbo citizens were compensated after the civil war, dismissing claims that late Finance Commissioner Obafemi Awolowo was solely responsible for the controversial 20-pound policy. In his memoir, Gowon writes that those with bank deposits recovered full value plus interest, and called the currency policy a collective federal decision.
