Grid shortfalls and technical faults cause power outages across Lagos, Abuja, and multiple states
Parts of Lagos and Abuja have experienced severe electricity supply disruptions, with Ikeja Electric and the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) attributing the outages to reduced power allocations from the national grid and sudden technical faults, according to a report by Nairametrics.
The DisCos disclosed the updates in public notices on Monday, October 19, 2026. Ikeja Electric noted that reduced supply hours across networks like Ogba and FESTAC stemmed from an ongoing national grid shortfall—marking the second time in two weeks it has issued such a warning following a similar notice on October 5. Meanwhile, AEDC reported that technical faults disrupted services across FCT communities including Life Camp Extension, Kado Fish Market, and Mab Global Estate, though repair teams were deployed to restore service.
Similar infrastructure and transmission constraints have affected other regions. The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company announced load restrictions across Ogun State due to network maintenance on the Ota/Papalanto/Abeokuta 132kV line, while Jos and Port Harcourt distribution companies managed separate maintenance and restoration efforts.
