Gvardiol’s late winner gives Maresca dramatic Man City start

Manchester City scored two late goals to earn Enzo Maresca a win in his first Premier League game in charge – and deny Marco Rose the perfect start as Bournemouth boss.

Manchester City scored twice late on to beat Bournemouth 2-1 and give Enzo Maresca victory in his first Premier League match in charge.

Marcus Tavernier put Bournemouth ahead after 26 minutes, leaving City facing defeat until Marc Guehi headed home an 84th-minute equaliser.

Substitute Rayan Cherki then unlocked Bournemouth’s defence in stoppage time, setting up Josko Gvardiol to score the winner. The goal was initially ruled offside before VAR overturned the decision.

City’s performance was far from convincing, but the late turnaround secured three points after their 3-0 Community Shield defeat by Arsenal.

Maresca’s side next travel to face Crystal Palace
