Harvey Weinstein jailed for 15 years over 2006 sexual assault in retrial

Disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Wednesday for sexually assaulting former production assistant Miriam Haley in 2006, Fox News reported, citing the Associated Press.

Weinstein, 74, apologised in a Manhattan court while insisting he never assaulted anyone. Haley said the ordeal was “a life sentence for me.” Judge Curtis Farber called him “the literal face of the MeToo movement.”

His 2020 conviction was overturned by New York’s highest court before a second jury found him guilty last year. His lawyer, Jacob Kaplan, cited illnesses including blood cancer and heart failure. Weinstein plans to appeal and awaits resentencing in a separate Los Angeles rape case.
