Deadly virus could lead to worldwide ‘heart failure pandemic,’ claim experts

DAILY STAR

The world could be heading towards a pandemic of heart failure caused by the impact of coronavirus, health experts warn.

The warning comes from scientists at Japan’s top research institute, Riken. A new report published on Saturday claims that the ACE2 receptors that coronavirus clings to within human cells is “very common” in the heart, and that many of those who had or have Covid suffer from “reduced cardiac function”.

And while the reason behind this remains unknown, it could lead to a series of heart attacks in the future. The report goes on to claim that the Covid-19 pandemic may have drastically changed the situation as those at risk of future heart failure due to “persistent infection of SARS-CoV-2 is expected to exponentially increase”.
