Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has said Nigeria’s democracy would survive even if former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar misses the 2027 presidential election.

According to TheCable, Keyamo made the remark on Friday following a Federal High Court judgment in Abuja nullifying the David Mark-led African Democratic Congress (ADC) leadership and Atiku’s presidential nomination.

“Heavens WILL NOT FALL IF A CERTAIN ATIKU ABUBAKAR IS NOT ON THE BALLOT IN 2027,” Keyamo declared.

The minister criticised opposition politicians for attacking the judiciary when judgments go against them while praising favourable rulings.

He recalled the Supreme Court’s 2019 judgment overturning APC victories in Zamfara, which Atiku previously welcomed.

Keyamo also cited the 2020 ruling that nullified David Lyon’s election as Bayelsa governor.

He maintained that the APC accepted both decisions without attacking judges.

Meanwhile, Atiku and the ADC have indicated plans to challenge Thursday’s judgment, which followed a leadership dispute within the opposition party ahead of the forthcoming presidential election.
