Hours after resignation from APC, EFCC summons ex-gov Sylva over alleged $14.86m fraud

Former Bayelsa State Governor Timipre Sylva, declared wanted by the EFCC over an alleged $14.86 million fraud, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress, accusing the anti-graft agency of operating as “an organ of the ruling party” rather than an independent institution.

According to The Punch,in a resignation letter dated August 31, 2026, Sylva — a founding APC member — described the party as “a floundering ship whose fate appears to have been sealed by its irredeemable load of iniquities,” saying the administration had “thoroughly and unrecognisably thwarted” the party’s founding ideals.

The EFCC responded firmly, with spokesperson Dele Oyewale stating: “He has been declared wanted; he should make himself available to the commission.”
