House Democrats demand Trump preserve his conversations with AI chatbots
Top House Democrats are demanding that President Donald Trump preserve his conversations with AI chatbots as part of an inquiry into whether Elon Musk’s Grok has influenced White House policy, TIME reports.
Two senior House Democrats are pressing Trump to keep his AI chatbot records. In a letter released Oct. 30, Reps. Jamie Raskin of Maryland and Robert Garcia of California asked him to preserve “any prompts” sent to Grok, ChatGPT, Claude and similar tools, along with the replies, and requested a briefing by 5 p.m. on Nov. 11. Raskin and Garcia would likely chair the Judiciary and Oversight committees if Democrats take the House.
The letter follows a TIME report on a December 2025 Oval Office meeting in which Trump reportedly spent hours questioning Grok, including about how Venezuelans would react to the capture of Nicolás Maduro. Trump ordered an operation to seize Maduro the following month.
The lawmakers called the episode “deeply troubling” and cited the Presidential Records Act.
