How to check your home address, name on Nigeria’s new digital postcode system
Nigerians can now check their home addresses and obtain digital postcodes through the Federal Government’s National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System, launched on October 1, 2026.
According to The Nation, the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) introduced the platform to improve address identification, deliveries and emergency services.
Each addressable building receives a unique 11-character alphanumeric code.
Residents can follow these steps:
1. Visit the website: Open postcode.gov.ng and select “Find my postcode”.
2. Search your address: Enter your house number, street, neighbourhood or location name.
3. Check your name: Examine property descriptions to determine whether your name appears in the records.
4. Use phone location: Enable location services to identify your building on the map.
5. Correct errors: Submit requests for missing postcodes or inaccurate address information through the platform.
6. Understand the code: Digital postcodes identify buildings rather than individual residents.
NIPOST explained that residents sharing a building can use the same postcode.
The service is free, and users should verify their locations before sharing addresses for deliveries or official correspondence.
