Hungary, Poland back strict migration rules as unrest rocks France
Hungary and Poland have cited violent unrest in France and Italy to defend their strict migration policies, Fox News reported on Monday. Hungary’s Prime Minister Péter Magyar said the destruction showed why Budapest advocates the strictest possible approach to migration and will not weaken border protection under any pressure.
Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk said “Poland will not repeat the mistakes of other European countries,” adding that Warsaw is defending its border against illegal migration and deporting those who break Polish law. Former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki also said France is burning and Poland must be wise.
Fox News Digital also quoted Sweden-based political scientist Daniel Schatz, who said the leaders are delivering a blunt message to Brussels: being pro-European does not mean signing up for liberal immigration policies. Eurostat’s latest figures, cited in the report, show France had almost 10 million foreign-born residents in 2025, compared with roughly one million in Poland and fewer than 700,000 in Hungary.
