Ibibio Vanguard seeks probe over Akwa Ibom graduate’s death at NYSC camp
The Ibibio Vanguard has called for an investigation into the death of an Akwa Ibom State graduate at a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp.
The group demanded that the circumstances surrounding the graduate’s death be thoroughly examined to establish what happened and determine whether any negligence was involved.
The development has raised concerns about the welfare and safety of prospective corps members participating in the mandatory national service programme.
According to THEWILL, the deceased, Comrade Etimbuk Daniel, was a former Students’ Union Government president of Akwa Ibom State University who died at the NYSC camp in Enugu State.
In a statement signed by its National Secretary, Silas Udom, Ibibio Vanguard urged the Federal Government, NYSC management, police and health authorities to investigate the incident.
The group cited unverified allegations that Daniel complained of a headache, received inappropriate medication and experienced delays in accessing hospital treatment.
It demanded accountability and adequate medical care for corps members.
Meanwhile, Governor Umo Eno mourned Daniel, describing his death as a painful loss to the state and student community.
The governor extended condolences to his family, friends and former colleagues.
