Indonesia beat 10-man Thailand on penalties to win FIFA ASEAN Cup
Indonesia defeated Thailand on penalties to win the FIFA ASEAN Cup after a dramatic final in Jakarta, according to The Daily Star. The hosts ended a run of eight matches and 10 years without victory over Thailand in spectacular fashion. Indonesia took the lead in the 84th minute after Nicholas Mickelson was sent off, but Iklas Sanron equalised three minutes later.
Thailand, despite playing with 10 men, then moved ahead through Peeradol Chamrasamee in extra time before Bangkok-born Elkan Baggott levelled for Indonesia five minutes later. The final went to penalties, where Indonesia goalkeeper Emil Audero saved Nattapong Sayriya’s effort to secure the title.
