Joan Laporta hits back at Atletico Madrid over failed Julian Alvarez transfer

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has criticised Atletico Madrid’s reaction to the club’s failed attempt to sign Julian Alvarez during the summer transfer window. According to Barca Universal, Barcelona submitted a €100 million offer for the Argentine striker, but Atletico refused to negotiate and subsequently accused the Catalan club of approaching the player improperly.

Laporta said he contacted Atletico CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin directly and claimed the Madrid club “reacted out of line” during the negotiations. He also alleged Barcelona received information that Atletico were willing to sell Alvarez to other clubs but not to Barça. Despite the failed move, Laporta said Barcelona are satisfied with their current squad.
