Judge declares Lindsay Clancy mistrial following jury deadlock

A Massachusetts judge has declared a mistrial in the case of Lindsay Clancy, the former nurse accused of murdering her three children, after jurors deadlocked following seven days of deliberation, according to a report by CNN.

Judge William Sullivan’s ruling came after the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court denied a defense emergency appeal seeking further questioning or removal of a holdout juror, whom the defense alleged was biased against people with mental illness. The 12-person jury split 11-1 despite 38 hours of deliberation.

Prosecutors argued Clancy, 36, acted “intentionally, rationally, and swiftly” in killing her children, while the defense maintained she suffered from postpartum psychosis. A retrial remains possible.
