Juventus take Ronaldo wage dispute to Italy’s Highest Court
Juventus have taken their legal battle with Cristiano Ronaldo to Italy’s Court of Cassation, challenging a ruling that ordered the club to pay the forward €9.8m in unpaid wages, Gazzetta reports, as relayed by Football Italia.
The dispute dates back to 2021, when Ronaldo left Juventus to return to Manchester United. It centres on a pandemic-era agreement under which the club reportedly committed to paying €19.5m in deferred wages. The private “Ronaldo letter” emerged during an investigation into the club’s finances.
In April 2024, an arbitration panel ruled by majority that Juventus must pay €9.8m plus interest and inflation adjustments, about half of what Ronaldo claimed. The Turin Labour Court rejected Juventus’ appeal in January 2026.
Juventus filed the new appeal on March 27, 2026, according to their 2025-26 financial report, and are awaiting a hearing date. The club say the ruling’s costs have been reflected in their accounts since 2023-24, so they expect no further negative impact.
