Kamala Harris responds to Democrats who don’t want her to run again
Former US Vice President Kamala Harris says she is undecided about running for president in 2028, even as some Democrats make clear they would rather she did not.
Speaking to CNN in Clarksdale, Mississippi, while campaigning for Democratic Senate candidate Scott Colom, Harris was asked how long she could delay a decision. “I go back and forth. I honestly go back and forth,” she said. “There’s so many factors.”
She said her motivation would not be to defeat fellow Democrats. “If I run, my motivation is not to beat other Democrats. It’s to actually do the job,” she said.
Harris also brushed off a Wall Street Journal report that her husband, Doug Emhoff, privately preferred she not run. “I’m sure there are many who think that I should just sit at home and eat bonbons and cook Doug’s favorite foods,” she said. “I could cook Doug’s favorite foods and do this.”
Meanwhile, prospective rivals are moving. Maryland Gov. Wes Moore has started telling people he will take another look at running after November, while an adviser to Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear denied reports of a launch plan.
