Kano court remands woman for cutting off boyfriend’s manhood over attempt to marry another lover

A Kano Magistrate Court has ordered the remand of a 25-year-old woman, Maimuna Idris, in a correctional centre for allegedly attacking her boyfriend, Ashiru Sani, with a knife and severing his manhood.

Tribune reports that Idris, a resident of Maigatari Local Government Area of Jigawa State, is facing two counts of attempted culpable homicide and causing grievous hurt.

Prosecution counsel, H.A. Sani-Buhari, told the court that the incident occurred on July 27 at Durbar Hotel, Badawa Quarters, Kano.

She alleged that Idris attacked Sani after discovering that he intended to marry another woman. The prosecution said police received a report from the hotel management at about 12:50 p.m., while the alleged attack occurred around 11 a.m.

“The victim was immediately rushed to Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital, Kano, for medical treatment,” she said.

Idris pleaded guilty to the charges, which the prosecution said contravened Sections 229 and 248 of the Penal Code.

Magistrate Sadiya Usman ordered her remand and adjourned the case.
