Kano PDP names Abacha’s son guber candidate

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano has affirmed Muhammad Abacha, son of late Head of State General Sani Abacha, as its candidate for the state’s forthcoming governorship election, according to a report by Peoples Gazette.

State PDP chairman Bello Gambo-Bichi announced the decision on Wednesday during a replacement governorship primary, also naming Yusuf Ado-Kibiya, a former state chairman and commissioner, as Abacha’s running mate. The switch followed the withdrawal of the party’s earlier candidate, Muhammad Dalha, after consultations among stakeholders in Kano and Abuja.

Gambo-Bichi said the process, which representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission witnessed, complied with the Electoral Act and party guidelines. He said Kibiya’s nomination followed reconciliation between rival PDP factions in Kano, which also led to the replacement of some National and State Assembly candidates.

Abba Abdullahi, chairman of the primary election panel, formally declared Abacha the party’s nominee, noting his candidacy remains subject to statutory scrutiny by electoral authorities.
