Kenya records third Ebola infection, health ministry confirms
Kenya has confirmed its third Ebola case after a 65-year-old woman tested positive for the virus, the country’s health ministry announced on Friday.
According to Channels Television, the woman is a close relative of the country’s first two confirmed patients and had been quarantined since October 6.
She developed symptoms including “fever, sore throat and malaise” before testing positive.
Health authorities said the risk to the public “remains low”, stressing that there was “no evidence of community transmission”.
Of 130 identified contacts, 127 have been traced and quarantined, while efforts continue to locate the remaining three.
Kenya recorded its first Ebola death on October 5 after a 40-year-old businessman returned from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
A second patient, aged 39, subsequently tested positive while under quarantine.
The ministry said surveillance and containment measures remain in place to prevent further infections.
The outbreak comes amid continuing Ebola transmission in neighbouring countries, including the Democratic Republic of Congo.
