Kenya: Senators demand probe as 36 students get pregnant in govt secondary school

Kenyan senators have demanded an investigation after 36 students at Bakisa Secondary School in Webuye, Bungoma County, were reported to have become pregnant.

According to SaharaReporters, the Kenya Women Senators Association called on authorities to establish the circumstances surrounding the cases and identify those responsible.

Nominated Senator Catherine Muma said the pregnancies should not be normalised, urging the Interior Ministry and security agencies to ensure investigations proceed.

Of the 36 affected students, 13 have given birth, 13 are pregnant, while 10 dropped out of school after becoming pregnant.

Police in Bungoma County have launched investigations and a manhunt for suspects.

The senators also urged education officials, police and investigators to act swiftly and ensure those responsible face justice without delay.
