Krakow Main Square shooting: What we know so far

At least six people have been killed and several others injured after a gunman opened fire in Krakow’s Main Market Square, BBC reports. Police said a man drove into the square shortly before 15:00 local time before beginning to fire “at random people from his car”. Armed officers engaged the attacker in a gunfight and he was shot within three minutes, officials said. He is alive and has been arrested.

Six people, four women and two men, including a foreign national, were confirmed killed, and 16 people were taken to hospital, among them two police officers who were shot while detaining the attacker. Police identified the attacker as a 25-year-old Polish man. A minister said early investigations indicate he was inspired by “far-right ideologies”. Police said he wore “military-style attire”, though authorities confirmed he was not a soldier. Krakow Mayor Łukasz Gibała declared a mourning period until November 11, and Prime Minister Donald Tusk is travelling to the city.
