Kwara government suspends prosecutor who withdrew kidnapping case allegedly on AG’s orders
The Kwara State Government has reportedly suspended Senior State Counsel Cyril N. Kolo indefinitely after he withdrew criminal charges against eight men accused of kidnapping, murder and armed robbery.
According to SaharaReporters, sources within the Ministry of Justice alleged that Kolo acted on instructions from the Attorney-General, Ibrahim Sulyman, who approved the withdrawal over insufficient evidence.
A ministry source said, “I saw the instruction from the Attorney-General myself. Kolo did not just wake up and decide to withdraw a case involving kidnapping and murder. He was acting on the instruction given to him.”
The sources accused the government of inadequate funding for criminal investigations, claiming several other kidnapping cases faced possible withdrawal.
They further alleged that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq subsequently directed prosecutors to revive the case and suspend plans to withdraw similar charges.
The eight defendants had been discharged, but not acquitted, by an Ilorin High Court following the prosecution’s application.
The allegations against them remain unproven.
