You should never pee in the shower – doctor says it has ‘huge consequence’

You may want to think twice about having a tinkle in the shower.

It may sound a bit disgusting, but most of us have done it at some point. Peeing in the shower is quite common, but now Brits have been advised against it.

Urogynaecologist, Dr Teresa Irwin, who specialises in pelvic health and incontinence, told her TikTok followers that when we pee while having a scrub we’re actually teaching our bladders to want to wee as soon as we hear the sound of water.

“You don’t want to do it all the time because what happens is every time you hear the sound of water your bladder is going to want to pee – because it’s used to hearing the sound of the water in the shower,” she said.

“So whenever you’re washing your hands, washing the dishes, your bladder is going to be salivating, so to speak, because it wants to go and pee.”

Similar thoughts were shared by Dr Alicia Jeffrey-Thomas, who previously told people on social media that having a shower wee could lead to “huge consequences” at a later date.
