LIST: 7 affordable tokunbo cars with low port clearing costs…
Nigerians looking to import foreign-used cars can reduce clearing costs by choosing smaller, fuel-efficient models, according to a report by Legit.ng.
The report listed seven affordable options:
Suzuki Alto
Kia Picanto
Hyundai i10
Toyota Vitz/Yaris
Nissan March/Micra
Chevrolet Spark
Honda Fit/Jazz
Under Nigeria’s 2026 import framework, passenger vehicles face a 20 percent import duty, a 5 percent National Automotive Council levy, and 7.5 percent VAT, all calculated from the vehicle’s assessed value. Buyers should budget between ₦1.5 million and ₦3.5 million for clearing a small car, verify the VIN, and confirm Customs valuation before payment.
