Mambilla: ICC tribunal faults ex-AGF Malami over actions against Nigeria’s interest

An International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) arbitration tribunal has accused Abubakar Malami, former attorney-general of the federation, of acting against Nigeria’s interest in the Mambilla hydropower dispute, The Cable reports.

The tribunal, chaired by Melanie van Leeuwen, found that Malami maintained an “inappropriate relationship” with Sunrise promoter Leno Adesanya and altered settlement terms that could have doubled Nigeria’s exposure to $400 million.

It said Malami supplied then-President Muhammadu Buhari with incorrect information and kept seeking approval even after Buhari refused. The tribunal rejected Sunrise’s $400 million claim entirely, ruling the agreements were products of corruption and ordering Sunrise to refund Nigeria’s legal costs.
