Mamdani announces Trump’s intervention in Ghanaian teenager’s murder case
US President Donald Trump has agreed to facilitate a visa for the Ghanaian mother of Javits Frimpong, a 15-year-old killed while walking to school in New York, the Peoples Gazette reports.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced the intervention on Saturday, saying Trump agreed during a telephone call to grant the visa immediately to Doris Gyamfi, who lives in Kumasi, Ghana. The White House had not confirmed the arrangement.
“The murder of a child is a pain no parent should have to endure, let alone from thousands of miles away,” Mamdani said.
Frimpong was shot in the abdomen in the Bronx and pronounced dead at St. Barnabas Hospital. Police are searching for three suspected teenage assailants, with no arrests or motive announced.
Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, welcomed the move and said Ghana would finance the mother’s travel, assist with visa arrangements and support funeral expenses.
“We will pursue justice, and we will make sure that those who did this do not get away with it,” he said.
