Man arrested over murder of retired teacher, allegedly strangled over N3.45m dispute
A 49-year-old man has been arrested over the murder of a retired education worker in Ogun State, nearly eight months after she was found dead at her home, Asaase Radio reports, citing Vanguard.
The Ogun State Police Command arrested Saburi Lateef, a transporter popularly known as Alhaji Oki Osan, over the killing of Mrs Adedotun Oluwaseun, a retired confidential secretary with the state’s Universal Basic Education Board. She was allegedly strangled and repeatedly wounded with a machete at her Bode Olude residence in Abeokuta in February 2026.
Police sources told Vanguard that Lateef gained access to the house while she attended a friend’s retirement party and attacked her when she returned. Lateef reportedly admitted the killing, claiming a 3.45 million naira (about $2,400) dispute over money he said he entrusted to her.
The family disputed his account. Eldest daughter Taiwo Atanda told Vanguard they never knew him as her mother’s friend. Police have not disclosed further evidence or other suspects.
