Man City face reported seven-to-10-year UEFA ban amid financial rules appeal
Manchester City could face a seven-to-10-year ban from European competitions if their appeal against a financial rules verdict fails, according to a report by Football365. The claim originated from Colombian broadcaster and football commentator César Augusto Londoño, who posted on October 15 that UEFA was reportedly preparing to exclude the club from its competitions.
He wrote: ‘UEFA is reportedly close to announcing that, if Manchester City is found guilty following its appeal, it will be expelled from all European competitions for a period of 7 to 10 years.’ He added: ‘Under that measure, it would be unable to participate in the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League. The club was found guilty of 115 financial violations in the first instance.’
However, UEFA has not officially confirmed the alleged punishment, meaning the claim remains unverified. Manchester City have appealed against an independent commission’s findings concerning alleged financial breaches between 2009 and 2018. The club maintains its innocence.
Football finance expert Kieran Maguire also suggested that any domestic points deduction could run into double figures, citing the scale of the alleged financial discrepancies. Possible sanctions remain uncertain as the appeal process continues.
