Man fined £1,000 for racist social media abuse aimed at Djed Spence

A 69-year-old Cambridgeshire man has been fined £1,000 after sending racist and abusive messages to England international Djed Spence on social media. According to Cambridge Independent, Brian Bealey posted multiple offensive comments on X between March 17 and 29, targeting Spence and others.

The messages were referred to the Football Association and Premier League following England’s fixture against Uruguay on March 27. Police subsequently identified Bealey as the account holder. Bealey pleaded guilty at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on September 17 to sending offensive messages by public communication. Police warned that social media users who post racist abuse can be identified and prosecuted.
