Man United blow 2-0 lead, crash out of League Cup to Brighton

Manchester United crashed out of the League Cup after blowing a two-goal lead in a stunning 3-2 defeat to Brighton on Wednesday, Vanguard reports.

Michael Carrick’s side led through goals from Shea Lacey and Mason Mount inside 10 minutes, only for Charalampos Kostoulas to spark Brighton’s revival before Pascal Gross equalised and Maxim De Cuyper struck the winner.

It marked United’s second successive home defeat, further compounding a difficult start following their controversial 1-0 loss to Manchester City, and the first time in 50 years the club had lost after leading 2-0 at home.

Carrick’s decision to make eight changes exposed his squad’s lack of depth, with United now beaten three times in six games across all competitions.

Elsewhere, Fleetwood Town reached the fourth round for the first time by stunning Championship side Sheffield United, while Aston Villa and Everton also progressed with wins over Coventry and Wolves respectively — leaving Carrick under mounting pressure ahead of Sunday’s crucial trip to Fulham.
